Some Thoughts About April
a chill remains in the warming air
cool breezes blow the falling rain
and the days are longer
there’s a slight sadness
about the
month
gloomy mornings fighting to hide
the sun
and I think of you still
tiny buds fight to emerge from
dark wet soil
and trees swell with new life
bright green leaves poking through
the ends of spring branches
soon the magnolia will bloom
like a majesty in the earth
fragrant petals paint memories
of a time when you were here
listening to the downpour I imagine
Aprils past
when clouds made way for
the beauty of summer
a season of beginnings
I wonder if it rains where you
are
if the magnolia smell as sweet
and if you still remember iridescent rainbows
that promised forever
when April meant resurrection
and not a time for you to die
